Youku goes to film
Youku is going to partner with CFGC (China Film Group Corporation) for 10 short films, which are expected to go in shooting in May 2010. This partnership has already attracted well-known directors including FENG Xiaogang, and NING hao, formulating a theatre+ digital double distribution platform.
According to Wei, Senior Vice President of Youku, 2007 to 2009 is the preliminary stage of online video content creation, and online wepisode prove to be the key product for Youku’s online videos. Realizing that online videos are informative, interactive, and entertaining, Youku is going to create more partnerships like this which bridge different platforms and cover diverse audience groups.
Youku launches independent video search site
According to Chinatechnews.com, Chinese video website Youku.com(优酷) has launched an independent video search website Soku.com(搜酷), which allows users to search for videos on Youku.com as well as those on other websites. translated into Chines, soku means cool search. The launch of this new video search website aims to aid Youku.com's competition with Baidu.com's newly launched video subsidiary Qiyi.com(奇异), which means extremely different. here’s a sneak peak of both "Cool Search" and "Extremely Different":
